More Winterlude Adventures

We returned to Spark Street Saturday to see the results of the International Ice Sculpture contest. It was much colder then last week. Weather report said with windchill it felt like -31 C (-23.8 F). We did not stay as long this time around.

We checked out the ice sculptures first. There has been warm days earlier in the week and it had taken it's toll on the all the designs. It was sad to see blocks of ice broken at the base of a cultures or missing features like hands, limbs, or major elements. Here are the winners with their concept art:

The third place winner had the greatest ice loss. I would have liked to seen this one before the warm weather before got to it.
I thought this was such a neat concept last week week when we watched the team working. I was happy to see that they placed.

This piece was so beautiful even with the ice loss. We weren't surprised it came in first.

We went to back to see the progress (you can see how it looked last week here) of the interactive coloured ice project...and add a few more pieces to the sculpture. You can see how much the ice has grown above in the title picture.

These were so neat. They are inflated. I forget the story with them., but by adding a flash, it illuminated their designs.

The photo on the left was an art installation called "Iceburg." It was my favourite. Any time we passed it I insisted in walking through. As you walked through the arches you could hear the dripping water and other iceburg-y sounds. The picture on the left required two people to yell at each other. As the sound traveled the rings illuminated.

We ended the day splitting a Killaloe Sunrise Beavertail. It was very yummy. It was another good Winterlude Adventure. Our next Winterlude plan is skating; hopefully it will also include a Beavertail.
