Make It Monday: Make It Organized

I’ve been working on being organized this year. I started with my office at the church. It was a long process. I didn’t think to get a before transformation picture. So I made a floor plan and took pictures in mid-cleaning process.
I half to give a special thanks to my mom who helped me go through the last few piles which had seemed impossible to sort through.

Here it is my office today:

Thankful Thursdays

I am thankful for friend reunions. Last night I got to have supper with Jason and Christine Blaikie. I love meals and friends together. It was happy. They’ll also be at church on Sunday to share about their heart for missions and Thailand. Has anyone heard their elephant legs comparison to prayer partners it is pretty sweet?

Make-It Monday: Stampin' Up

My friend Kim has invited me to a card making party that was hosted by a “Stampin’ Up” demonstrator. Stampin’ Up is similar to Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, and Tupperware in that a host invites friends to see a demonstration of the products who then wants to buy them. This night was different; the host frequently just invites friends over to try out new products and techniques with no sales pitch. All we did was make things.

I like scrapbooking projects with their pretty papers, neat accessories, and personal touch of having something homemade. I’ve bough a nice album, some paper and other supplies but haven’t done anything with them(reading between the lines -I've done nothing). So, this craft night was a first for me. We made the live with passion bag and the star card shown as well as a birthday card and a tiny gift box with four cute note cards. It was a fun making stuff time and I got to meet new people. It was a good night!

Food Friday: The Meal Plan

Back in January I created a list of 52 challenges for the year. One of the goals was to create and use a meal plan system. It hasn’t consistently happened yet. I’ve made menus a few times but any where from two days to a week later I wasn't following it.

I know the menu plans are good. They help bring creativity to meals, save time and money, and stop impulse buys and too many meals out. I know the pros for using meal plans I just can’t seem to do it faithfully. The systems just haven't stuck. I want that to change...and the change starts now.

I'm looking for something that will work. Do you a meal plan method that that works? What is it and why do you think it works for you? Do you plan one, two, three, or four weeks in advance? Do you rotate your plans every few weeks? When you use the menu plan is it just an idea like “Monday = chicken” or is it more detailed with a specific recipe and side dish suggestions? Please share your success or mutual frustration in the comments. This week I am going to do some research, find what the internet food gurus say about the subject, read you suggests and hopefully create something that will work for me.

Next Friday I’ll post the new meal plan solution

Thankful Thursday: The Office Invasion

I walked into my office this morning in a daze. My mind was focused on my "to do list" and the day ahead. I was not paying attention to my surrounding or anything in particular. As I sat down at my desk I noticed colourful fluff. As I turned to look this beautiful face greeted me:

Dark Knight...Joker...creepy. I was almost expecting someone grab me from behind. My very thankful it didn't happen. All that was there were more trolls.

The rest of the day I discovered more "guests" in unexpected places through out my office. There was one "mooning me," one on the door so that if you shut it the troll fell on you, and a tiny troll a bag of chips that had been left open on my desk. I just found two more a moment ago.

This was the handy work Mike (a BBC student who has been working with the youth this summer) and Jason’s (recent high school grad). There are more pictures and still more trolls but it seemed silly to try and post them all. I’m not a big practical joke fan…but this was cute. I even enjoyed it. Every time I find a new troll I burst out laughing. Today, I am thankful for laughter, jokes, humor, and the two crazy guys that set this up.

Cat Tales

The cat’s names (Inu and Kima) gave Mom trouble the first few days of her visit. She ended up joining the names and calling both Ki-mu (pronounced Key-moo).
Kima is on the left and Inu is on the right.
I love my cats when they are sleeping the best.

New Start

Twenty minutes till twelve (midnight) and the youth are playing cards in the other room. The summer has been full, good, but full. Mom visited; there was the week at Beulah, our children’s ministry day camp week (VBS), two all-nighters with the youth group, an overnight in Halifax, we went camping last night, great games nights with much Catan, and some good summer movies. I’ve loved the summer. It’s just really cut into my reading and blogging time. I miss both.

I miss the writing but I struggle to have something to say. Anyone else go through that? I’ll be driving and have an idea but by the time I am sitting down at my keyboard the thought has escaped. I’ve realized that my most consistent blogging moments have been when I set a specific deadline and had a series. So I am think I’m going to bring back the system…it worked. This is my idea:

Monday: Make-It Monday
Tuesday: Cat Tales
Thursday: Thankful Thursdays
Friday: Food Fridays
Sunday: Sunday Scribbles

Not sure of what to do with Wednesday or Saturday. I’m thinking about leaving them as free days that could either be breaks from writing or open for random thoughts. I’m also thinking the Cat Tales would make a bi-weekly topic. So, I’m also open to possible themes and series suggestions. If you’ve got an idea leave a comment.

Let the regular writing commence…
See you tomorrow.

Recent Discovery...

I found Dr. Horrible this morning and had to share, because really, who doesn’t love a “supervillain musical, of which, as we all know, there are far too few.”1

It is Joss Whedon goodness. Almost make up for not having new Firefly episodes.
