Survivor Nicaragua: Sept 29

My Thoughts:
1) The clash of personalities on both tribes is strong. Two episodes in and we get one of the most explosive tribal councils ever...after an opening question from Jeff. This season is going to be drama filled!
2) Watch out for NaOnka, she is mean. Last week she stole Jud's socks when hers were missing because she "doesn't like the guy". She called Kelly B. the “cripple” and a “charity case” adding that she wants Kelly gone as soon as possible.
3) Holly is crazy.
4) Kelly B., Jill, Jimmy J, and Chase are still my favourites.
5) I'm disliking Sash, NaOnka, Marty, and Jimmy "T".
6) Tonight's episode is titled “Glitter in Their Eyes”

Predictions for Sept 29:
I think La Flor will use the "Medallion of Power" to win the Immunity.

If Espada goes to tribal council Holly will be going home. I also think there is a good chance it could be Jimmy Johnson (due to lack of physical strength) or Jimmy "T" (because he hasn't clicked with anyone on the tribe).

If La Flor goes to tribal council Alina will be going home she voted against the majority of the tribe last week and is on the outside.

Last Week's Recap:
After voting out her friend and ally, Holly shows signs of cracking under the pressure. She's all over the place. One minute talking about kicking butt, the next steeling shoes for petty revenge filling them with sand and dropping them in the bay, then confessing the theft to the group hoping to start with a clean slate and integrity. To quote Jill "She's unstable."

At La Flor more personalities are clashing. As already mentioned NaOnka's socks were taken and plays as "dirty" by stealing Jud's socks. He confronts her and she yells and bullies. Later, Jud almost sets fire to his hair. NaOnka retorts "he's stupid."

The challenge was fun. First they had to crawl through the mud, find the balls buried in hay, unwrap the balls, using shields pass the balls to one another and the last person shoot the ball into an awaiting basket. Espada learned from the last challenge and used the medallion of power which helped them ensure victory, avoid council, and earn fishing gear.

Back at Espada, the whole group discovered the clue for the hidden immunity idol. Jill decoded the message which she shared with Marty and Dan who found it. This might be the start of an alliance but the trio hasn't made any packs yet.

Back at La Flor, Sash is working on creating a “Minority Alliance” with NaOnka and and Brenda. Chase was between a rock and a hard place. Both his alliances was gunning for the other one. Shannon wanted Brenda out, Brenda wanted Shannon out. Everyone spent the day scrambling for their side. The whole thing is a power keg. The global blog said,

The La Flora fuse was lit with one, solitary question from host Jeff Probst. Shannon tore into Chase for betraying him. Chase stumbled and bumbled trying to defend himself and save face as best he could. Sash waded into the conflict and was accused of being…ummm…gay (Huh?) by an ignorant Shannon. His manhood questioned, Sash felt the need to strut and displayed his feathers to prove himself and he did. Sash fired back claiming he had dated more women than Shannon even had. Double huh? Really? Folks, it is officially an argument between dumber and just plain dumb. Somewhere in there, perpetually pissed off NaOnka took some more swipes at Jud the Jughead, the perpetually puzzled.

After the arguments simmered down, with a vote of 7 to 3 Shannon was the second person voted out and 18 castaways remain:

Survivor Nicaragua: Sept 22

Is anyone else planning on watching Survivor Nicaragua? If you want to but can't because you're busy or don't have the channel Canadian can find episodes at and I believe CBS has all things Survivor for US fans.

My Thoughts On The Season:
1) I'm glad Survivor is back. I prefer it to Big Brother.
2) I've read a rumor is two castaways are going to leave without being voted out. I hope no one is seriously injured.
3) Overall I am cheering for the Espada tribe.
4) Castaways I like (so far) are Kelly B., Jane, Jill, Jimmy J, and Chase. I'm disliking Shannon, "Sash", Marty, and Jimmy "T".
4) Tonight's episode is titled “Fatigue makes cowards of us all” after a quote by Vince Lombardi.

Predictions for Sept 22:
I think Espada will use the "Medallion of Power" to win the Immunity.

I think that Shannon or "Sash" will be going home.

Last Week's
Two groups hiked to a beach where Jeff welcomed them with a challenge to find the "Medallion of Power" that would aid the holders team. Once Brenda located it a twist was given. The groups that walked in together weren't their actual tribes. Surprise! You're being divided by age. La Flor tribe is 30 and young tribe is and Espada is for those 40 and older.

La Flor was given the choice to use the "Medallion of Power" to gain flint (fire) and fishing gear or save it for an advantage later. If they saved the power the tools would be given to Espada. They took the tools, wise choice.

Next was the usual first day at camp interactions. People feeling each other other, first impressions shared in private interviews, and alliances began. Kelly B. reveals to La Flor that she has a prosthetic leg. A few share that she has to be one of the first to go because she'd win the sympathy vote. Kelly and Alina also find the first immunity idol clue. I like Kelly I hope she does well.

Over in Espada they get fire going without flint. She later tells Jeff that she listened to his advice from an earlier season when he said if you're going to come out here you better know how to make fire. She spent an afternoon learning how to start a fire with glasses.

The Challenge:
There was only the immunity challenge with week. Tribes had to flow water from a platform to a large bucket with gutters to drop puzzle pieces. The older tribe was given the choice of using the "Medallion of Power" to add a full pail of water to their bucket. It would be a benefit in this challenge but the younger tribe would have the Medallion for the next challenge. Espada chose not to use the power...which is sad because they lost the challenge.

Pre-Council Thoughts:
Espada was torn between voting out goat-rancher Wendy and former professional football coach and sports broadcaster Jimmy Johnson.

Tribal Council:
Wendy gave a crazy plea that seemed long (even the edited version) and that did not save her. With a vote of 10 to 1 Wendy was voted out and 19 castaways remain:

Survivor Is Back

It's an exciting reality TV night. (Side note: I realize "realty TV" isn't "real" and that many people find it lame. I still enjoy the shows and find it a great mind release and I share my silly thoughts here on my blog, because it is fun) First Big Brother ends (I'm hoping Lane wins but expecting Hayden to take the prize) and Season 21 of Survivor begins. This time they're in Nicaragua.

The tribes are going to be divided by age: young vs. old. With out reading any of the groups bios I've decided to cheer on the "older" blue tribe.

If your interested Jeff Probst gives his assessment of this seasons castaways over on youtube.

The Thankful Thursday Summer Review +20

This summer I was thankful for...

1) Tabi the church's summer student
2) My family
3) The host families of the three backyard clubs
4) ALL my many backyard club and soccer camp volunteers especially Lucas for being Pizza Man for two weeks!
5) The whole church for supporting kids ministry
6) The youth group for being awesome
7) My friends

This was, for me, the best summer I've had at New Hope. I've actually said that every summer because I'm learning to learn the previous years triumphs and mistakes. It has been a great summer but a busy one, as seen by the lack of blogging; I even missed eight weeks of "Thankful Thursday" which is the reason for the summer review post. But I also went back and did a post for each week. So, if you're interested in a more detailed look at the goings on and blessing of the summer, you can visit the individual posts here:

Thankful Thursday #19

I am thankful for:

1) Hope
2) Friends
3) Simple joys
4) Finding the right questions to ask
5) Fresh berries and warm just out of the oven pizza
6) Organized desks
7) The ability to walk

I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.
