Games Day with Meeples to Go

This was a real conversation that happened while packing for the move to Ontario, just over two years ago:

Friend: Liz, how can I help?
Me: Well, the board games need to be brought up so they can be packed next. They are downstairs on a bookshelf.
Friend: Okay, I can do that.
Me: Great, just to be warned, I have a small problem with board games.
[Friend goes downstairs then returns moments later.]
Friend: Um, Liz, you don't have a small problem with board games.
Liz: Oh, I don't have a problem with board games.
Friend: No, you have a problem with board games...it's just not small.

Might have been true in Nova Scotia, but since the move I haven't really been playing games. Once and awhile my family will indulge me in a game. I've attended a few games nights at a near by games store. I've found some friends who like games but most of the time we play rpgs. I can count on one hand the game nights I've had in 2018. I am even considering selling off a bulk of my game collection, a depressing thought, but why keep them if they are just gathering dust.

However, there is hope. At Ottawa Comic Con, Susi and I checked out the games room and library run by Meeples to Go. After learning to play Castles of Burgundy Dice Game, we chatted with the volunteers and learned not only did they do games rentals, they have a weekly games group that meets in my town, at my library! I've gone twice and loved it. And then this Saturday they had a bigger game event. I convinced Mum to join me. We had a great time.

We tried two games; both were new to us. The first was Sagrada, I really liked it. I'd go out and buy it tomorrow, expect for the lack of regular game playing in my life, oh, and the fact that my Meeples to Go friends have it so I don't need to. The game was dice rolling and number/color matching. Neither of us won but we had a lot of fun.

The second game was Kingdomino. It's a cute game. Simple and yet not simple. Mum did awesome and killed it. Her winning 5x5 board is the one in the picture.

I also one this super cute and fast two player game called Dark is the Night in the door prize draw. It claims to be 15 min, I lost in three moves. I look forward to trying it again.

More games is more happy. I want to have regular game playing in my life again. Thursday I am planning to post this year's birthday bucket list. There will be one board game related challenge. So maybe that can happen.
