Ruth Translation: Ruth 4:11-4:22

Hello Friends and Faithful Readers,

This translation project has been a journey. Thank you for sticking with me. Today I pushed through the last twelve verses needing to be translated. It made for a very late night (it's actually after 3:00 am on December 6th as I add the finishing touches to this post). It may be late but it is finished!

With the Ruth translation over, what's next? More translation, the major paper for the same class is due soon and a part of the assignment is to translate 1 Samuel 3:1-21. I will also be reviewing my Ruth translation for the exam next week. That is the last things for this semester and I can focus on Christmas. I am think about revisiting Ruth the first week of January. The translation you have been reading is a very literal interpretation. I would like to take that work and follow Eugene Peterson's poetic paraphrasing on the Scriptures. Would that interest you?

Here are the last twelve verses of Ruth:

Ruth 4:11
All the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who came to your house be like Rachael and Leah who together built the house of Israel and be honorably in Ephrath and proclaim the name in Bethlehem.

Ruth 4:12
And may it be in your house as the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah from the offspring which the Lord will give to you from this young woman.

Ruth 4:13
Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. He was intimate with her, and the Lord gave her a pregnancy, and she birthed a son.

Ruth 4:14
And the woman said to Naomi, "Blessed be the Lord who has not left you without a redeemer today; may his name be renowned in Israel."

Ruth 4:15
And may he be to you one who returns your soul and supports you in your old age. For the daughter-in-law who loves you and bore him is better to you than seven sons.

Ruth 4:16
And then Naomi took the child and placed him on her lap and she cared for him.

Ruth 4:17
Then the neighbouring woman said, "There is a son born to Naomi" and called him Obed.
Obed was the father of Jesse,
Jesse was the father of David.

Ruth 4:18
And these are the descendants of Perez. Perez was the father of Hezron.

Ruth 4:19
Hezron was the father of Ram,
Ram was the father of Amminadab,

Ruth 4:20
Amminadab was the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon was the father of Salmon,

Ruth 4:21
Salmon was the father of Boaz,
Boaz was the father of Obed,

Ruth 4:22
Obed was the father of Jesse,
And Jesse was the father of David.
