This had started as a dragon look. It was going to be a terrifying red fire breathing dragon with a scale spine detail on the crease. As I was drawing the red scales I decided it looked less dragony and more phoenixy, leading me to switch. I added gold to make the fiery feathers on the outer corner of the eyes. I also tried changing the shape of my upper lip a bit with a lip liner, not sure I liked the result. The change to the phoenix inspiration was fitting because we watched X-Men: Dark Phoenix after I was done (I do the makeup the day before so the post is ready to go at 7am).
