The Dragons Mourn

It is a sad time for sci-fi fans, Anne McCaffrey, the creator of the Dragons of Pern series has died at the age of 85. I have nothing to add that hasn't been said by Wall Street Journal and Digital Journal. Just that it makes me sad. I've been reading her words since high school. Also that the world of Pern feels like a link to my grandfather who died this time last year. I thank her for that.

I've been struggling to describe or even give a good name and title to the leader of the dragons the Master Keeper (head of the dragons in my world). I think I'm going to re-create the character to be a tribute to Anne McCaffry. Hope that does not come off as trite or cheap; it is what I have to say good-bye to an author I enjoy and respect.
